Most meter boxes can be seen and accessed from the street so we recommend that you secure your power with an authorised ETSA lock; a special padlock and key which is approved by ETSA and still allows their technicians access to your meter box. If your meter box is behind a locked gate or inside your home or shed it is also possible to rekey any exist compatible lock to the ETSA key.
There have been a number of cases reported that perpetrators have switched off the power of properties to gain access and in some instances caused harm to the home owner/resident. One much published incident was that of Ms Redman of Seacliff who was murdered on Australia Day 2011 when her murderer cut the power at her meter box and when she went to investigate she was sadly murdered.
